...the franchise it's 2nd NBA Championship. The Bulls won two titles on June 14th, the 2nd being MJ's last game in a Bulls uniform.
While watching game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night, my younger brother and his friend were talking about how they wished they were older so they could have enjoyed the Bulls dynastic run in the 90′s. I feel for them because growing up with those teams and being old enough to remember the playoff runs is something I’ll never forget. As you get older and watch your teams stumble and lose their way, watching old Bulls games offers peace of mind for the heartbreak that is sure to follow.
I got a lot of those same feelings watching the Dream Team doc on NBA TV Wednesday night, especially how Michael Jordan & Scottie Pippen were determined to embarrass Toni Kukoc when the U.S. played Croatia. It was a giant fuck you to Jerry Krause who was too proud to appreciate what he had. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kukoc cried himself to sleep that night.
The good news for a depressed Cubs fan like myself is that June 14th is one of the better days in Chicago sports history. The Bulls twice won NBA titles on this day, so why not relive two of this town’s historic days? What else are you going to do, be productive at work? Good one. So sit back and enjoy the repeat in ’92 and the last dance in ’98…
It’s nice to reminisce and forget about Carlos Boozer’s contract and all of the bullshit that pollutes your day, isn’t it? I wouldn’t bet on it, but hopefully we can all experience another Bulls title so the younger generation can have the memories that we have from the golden era of the NBA.
